The New Jersey State Firemen’s Association held its recent expo in Wildwoods on the shores of the Atlantic. Between 10,000 and 15,000 firefighters and their families — yes, families — attended.
This year was the 27th year in Wildwoods, and it truly is the largest expo east of the Mississippi. Fire apparatus dealers and fire departments from the entire mid-Atlantic region gather for a hands-on experience of fire trucks and equipment.
Since the beginning, Wildwoods has had a reputation for being the wildest show in the fire industry. But this year, show managers worked hard to introduce training programs to the weekend activities. Consequently, the show matured — though often-boisterous social networking continued.

The Jersey City Fire Department has received a Spartan Gladiator/Crimson 103 foot aerial ladder, the first in the state. It is assigned to Ladder 11. It has a Detroit, Series 60, 515 hp diesel engine. It has a 5 kw generator and a new thermal imaging camera. Campbell Supply is also in the process of prepping the second aerial in the state, a Spartan Gladiator/Crimson 103 foot aerial for the City of East Orange Fire Department. Both aerials were sold by Campbell Supply Company, LLC. The Crimson Star Series aerial ladder is stainless steel construction and is manufactured in Lancaster, PA. The aerial has a 500 pound tip load while flowing up to 1000 gpm. It features a Tor-Max body structure which eliminates flex and twists in material causing less stress and fatigue. (Nasdaq: SPAR) today announced it has reached an agreement to acquire Utilimaster Corporation from John Hancock Life Insurance Company, a unit of Manulife Financial Corporation, a leading Canadian-based financial services group, in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $45 million. Utilimaster is a dominant manufacturer of specialty vehicles made to customer specifications in the delivery and service market, including walk-in vans and hi-cube vans, as well as truck bodies.
Spartan said the acquisition of Utilimaster is expected to add approximately $105 million in annualized revenues and be slightly dilutive to earnings in the first full year and accretive by year two. Utilimaster has approximately 550 employees and more than 550,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing capacity at its corporate headquarters in Wakarusa, Indiana.
