American LaFrance Eagle Introduces New Aerial Ladder With 500-Pound Tip Load Rating
Indianapolis, Ind. – American LaFrance has expanded the company’s line of heavy duty aerial ladders by adding a new 110-foot rear-mount heavy-duty aerial ladder with a tip load rating of 500 pounds.  The product was introduced today at the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference and is currently available for new orders.

“To remain a leader in the firefighting industry, we have to continually conceptualize and develop new technology and advances,” said Michael Blouch, general manager of American LaFrance Aerials. “With years of experience in new product design, no one does that better than American LaFrance.”

The new product joins the current heavy-duty aerial ladder family, which includes 250- and 750-pound rated ladders. Product features include:

• a pre-piped telescopic water system rated at 1,500 gallons per minute
• open walkways
• a maximum lift cylinder elevation range between -7 and +78 degrees

American LaFrance To Offer Roll Stability Control System To Help Avoid Vehicle Rollover
Indianapolis, Ind. – American LaFrance is further enhancing the safety of its vehicles by adding the Roll Stability Control (RSC) system. This new feature was introduced today at the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference.

Developed by American LaFrance’s parent company Freightliner in cooperation with Meritor Wabco, RSC uses information from the vehicle’s anti-lock brake system to engage brakes, decelerate engine and activate retarder when a rollover condition arises.

Freightliner has demonstrated great success with this product with more than 8000 units on the road.

“Because of this experience, American LaFrance has secured immediate product release,” Jim Lindhorst, product manager, chassis products, said. “The system is available for order now on pumpers, rescue pumper 4X2 applications, 4X2 rescues and 6X4 aerials.”

New American LaFrance Eagle Cab Design Features Eclosed Pump Controls
Indianapolis, Ind. – American LaFrance today introduced a new Eagle cab design at the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference. The new design features an enclosed top-mount pump module and vista style windows in the raised roof area.

This new design allows the firefighter to power the pump from within the cab without being exposed to the elements or potential dangers.

Other new vehicle features include a custom extruded aluminum body with integral sub-frame and a new lap door design system, offering improved sealing.

All of these features are currently available for order at any local American LaFrance dealer.


 
American LaFrance Launches Performance Enhancement with Independent Front Suspension
Indianapolis, Ind. – American LaFrance today launched the Strider Independent Front Suspension system on its custom Eagle chassis at the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference.

American LaFrance has partnered with Timoney Technology to supply their Strider Independent Front Suspension. The Strider IFS system consists of a completely engineered package which includes Bendix/Knorr 17 inch air disc brakes, supported on a fully-independent sprung double wishbone suspension. This configuration isolates individual wheel load inputs, ensuring maximum load stability and driver comfort on highways and in difficult to access terrain with load rating up to 24,000 pounds

Lower maintenance is also included with fewer grease points due to sealed-for-life bearings and joints.

The new IFS system is now available for order at local American LaFrance dealers.

 
American LaFrance Unveils New Liberty Series Vehicle

Historic Belmont Fire House in Portland, Oregon Expects to Open New Exhibit in February
(Ladson, SC) – American LaFrance has donated an Eagle® cab for use in an interactive, fire safety display at the Historic Belmont Fire House in Portland, Ore., illustrating the company’s ongoing commitment to public safety. American LaFrance, an icon in the history of fire service, donated the cab to realistically reflect modern fire service technology.

“American LaFrance has a rich heritage of creating fire service equipment for American firehouses,” said John Stevenson, President of American LaFrance .“We are pleased to provide this display, giving residents the opportunity to have a glimpse at authentic fire service equipment.”

AMERICAN LAFRANCE NAMES DOUG KELLEY AS NEW PRODUCT MANAGER FOR PUMPERS AND TANKERS
LADSON, S.C. – American LaFrance Corporation has named Doug Kelley, a second-generation veteran of the firefighting industry, as the new product manager for pumpers and tankers.

American LaFrance to Provide Customized RescueMaster® Special Assignments Unit for the City of Phoenix Police Department
Vehicle Combines SWAT With On-Scene Command
(Ladson, S.C.) American LaFrance will provide the City of Phoenix with a 39-foot, customized RescueMaster® Tactical Command Vehicle, giving the city state-of-the-art communication technology in one centralized vehicle. “The City of Phoenix Police Department was in search of a fully customizable, multifaceted vehicle that would conduct command operations,” said Robert Knapp, Special Assignments Unit Officer of the City of Phoenix Police Department.

The four-door Eagle® cab features a 20-inch raised roof, creating a total of 81 inches of interior working headroom. The body offers in excess of 400 cubic feet of enclosed customized storage space to transport equipment such as rolling bunkers, ballistic shields and other mission specific equipment for tactical operations. Recommendation demonstrates strong commitment to environmental protection

LADSON, S.C,– American LaFrance Corporation has achieved recommendation for registration to ISO Standard 14001:1996. The company earned this recommendation after demonstrating that the company successfully implemented all elements of an Environmental Management System in accordance with the standard.

Bil Farrell, Director, District Manager
WILLIAM J. FARRELL JR., 60, of FREEHOLD, died Sunday, Feb. 27, at home. He was a regional equipment supervisor for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Freehold, where he was employed for the past 36 years. He was also a district manager for Campbell Supply Company, Edison, for over 25 years. Beginning his career with the Company, Bill was hired by the late W. S. (Woody) Campbell as a service technician. Bill steadily climbed the ranks in Campbell Supply earning every promotion he attained. Bill was appointed to the Board of Directors at Campbell Supply in 1993. Bill was instrumental in the development of the Campbell Supply Service Department which has set the standard for fire apparatus repair across the country.
